Growing up at Glencorrie in the 1920s and 1930s

I now have a few photos (courtesy of Kathleen) which show the family of Rob and Jessie McWilliam in their youth.

Firstly there is a family photo taken in approximately 1920 – and I think the baby on his mother’s knee is Bill!

The others from left to right are my father George (age 7), Jess (11), Margaret (4), Bob (9), James (14), grandfather Rob with Alex (2) on his knee. Have I got this right? Of course Lily and Betty haven’t arrived yet!

And here’s one of just Jess, Margaret, Bob and George from around the same date.

Next a photo of the girls in 1936, with Bill Mill (Margaret’s husband-to-be). From left to right they are young Madge, Lily, Granny, Margaret, Betty.

And apparently on the same day they are joined by Bill and Alex.

Here is my Dad George with his pal Jim Innes – looking about 15 (so about 1928).

Now I have a photo of the Auchindoun WRI (Women’s Rural Institute) from the late 1920s – with Granny Jessie McW on the right in the back row.

They seem to be showing off their hyacinths. I  hope to be able to add more photos of Granny McW in due course.

Rob and Jessie McWilliam

With thanks to Kathleen I have obtained some photos of my grandfather Rob McWilliam as a young man – photos I have not seen before. They show him aged 25 in 1897 and then a few years later – maybe aged around 30.

I hope to add some more photos to this post in due course, showing young Granny McW, and hopefully also the two of them together. In the meantime I have selected a small image of her from a 1920s WRI photo.

And thank you to cousin Susan for this photo of our Granny (Jessie Pirrie) when she was just 16 (and so in about 1898)!
